Pit Stop (Taco Church)

What to Expect:  Every Thursday from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM (when school is in session), we gather in Asbury’s lower level to offer up to 4 Soft Tacos filled with either beef or chicken, accompanied by grated cheese, lettuce, taco sauce, sour cream, Spicy Ranch dressing, Nacho cheese and chips, homemade cookies, and a refreshing beverage to high schoolers in grades 10, 11, and 12. The students affectionately refer to Pit Stop as “Taco Church.”

At Pit Stop, it’s more than just a weekly lunch gathering; we are a community on a mission, responding to God’s call with Christian servants eager to make a positive impact. Join us for Taco Church – an exciting weekly event where we provide high school youth with an affordable and delicious lunch in a safe environment.

Where to go: Students enter the “Pit” area outside by the parking lot, and the journey begins.

More than 15 Years of Growth and Blessings: Over the past 16 years, what started with 24 students paying $3 for lunch has flourished into a thriving community. Now, with students contributing $4 each, we proudly serve close to 300 young individuals every week. From three volunteers in the kitchen, our dedicated team has expanded to at least 13 volunteers every week, each gathering for devotion and prayer before serving.

Signature Features: Our home-baked cookies have become a cherished highlight, a testament to the generosity of over 40 cookie bakers scheduled throughout the school year. Together, they bake an impressive 48 dozen cookies weekly, creating a sweet touch to our shared meals.

Supporting the Community: Beyond the delicious meals, Pit Stop embodies a spirit of generosity. Consider volunteering with us on a weekly basis, baking cookies, or become a sponsor and help students unable to cover their lunch expenses.

The Growth Continues: As we reflect on the journey, we recognize that God planted the seed, nourished it, and now it continues to grow. We trust in His plan and count our blessings as we strive to be a blessing to others. At Asbury, we firmly believe that none of us can do what all of us can do, and we invite you to join our vibrant community as we follow God’s plan and share in the joy of collective blessings.
