Children are a blessing from the Lord. Just like adults, children also have spiritual needs unique to their ages and life experiences. Our Children’s Ministries strive to provide an environment in which children are safe, are taught at an age-appropriate level, and are encouraged to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Kids have access to the Lord.
“But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” – Matthew 19:14
- Kids set an example.
“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12
- Kids desire to learn about God.
“But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” – Luke 2:49
- Kids receive the Lord.
“Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” – Acts 2:38-39
- Kids can hear God.
“And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.” – 1 Samuel 3:10
The nursery is available Sunday mornings from 8:30AM to 12:15PM for babies to 3 year old’s who are not potty trained. The nursery is located in the Green Room, in the hallway just outside of the Contemporary Worship Center. We have two caregivers Sunday mornings who are trained in CPR, First Aid, Asbury’s Child and Youth Protection Policy, and have been finger printed. The nursery features cribs, feeding and rocking chairs, and a large foam play area.
We are excited for you and your family to be at Asbury. If there is anything you need, or have any questions please feel free to contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Allison Nordling at firstname.lastname@example.org.
First time for dropping off your child in the nursery?
Please fill out the Emergency Contact and Photo Release forms when you drop off your child(ren). A nursery caregiver will give you a pager that will be utilized in the event that you are needed in the nursery.
What’s with the pager?
We will page you if you are needed in the nursery. We have found they are less disruptive than coming in and getting you, it also allows us to notify you no matter where you are in the building.
Do I need to leave anything with you?
Please bring in diapers and any food that your children will need for the morning. We provide a snack, toys, highchairs, and cribs/swings.
Please be aware that the nursery staff will provide a snack from Asbury unless given specific written instructions otherwise. Food that is given to the nursery staff should not require refrigeration or heating. However, you are welcome to bring a bag or lunch box that has ice or hot packs.
Where can I nurse or bottle feed?
We welcome you to nurse or bottle feed anywhere at Asbury. We have a Nursing Area located in the Prayer Room (located between the Sanctuary and the doors to the south of the Sanctuary). The door locks for privacy.
Where are the changing tables?
Changing tables are located in the Men’s and Women’s bathrooms upstairs (near the Worship Center), the nursery (Green Room) as well as the Blue, Orange, Yellow, and Purple rooms.
What do I do if I have older children?
Child and Youth Sunday School is available for 3 year old’s (potty-trained) to high school from 10:00AM to 11:00AM.
J.A.M. (Jesus and Me), is our children’s church from 11:00AM to 12:00PM for children who are 3 years old (potty-trained) thru 4th grade. J.A.M. is located in the Kidz Zone straight down the hall from the Contemporary Worship Center.
What does Asbury do to protect my children?
At Asbury United Methodist Church, we have a Child and Youth Protection Policy to implement safety measures to demonstrate our absolute and unwavering commitment to the physical safety of all of our children and youth. For more information, visit our Child and Youth Protection Policy webpage.
During the Contemporary Service worship time at 11:00 a.m., the children have their own age-appropriate service called J.A.M. (Jesus And Me), which is located in the Room 121 just down the hall from the Worship Center. J.A.M. features songs, crafts, bible lessons, snacks, puppets and a bit of play time, all focused around your child and their special relationship with Jesus. One of our hosts will be happy to show you their special space.
(Please note: Children attending J.A.M. should be at least 3 years old and potty-trained. If your child is a bit too young for J.A.M., we would be happy to welcome them into our nursery.)
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a specialized form of Christian education focused on children, featuring religious study courses, arts and crafts, and recreation. VBS is held as a 4-day event during the summer, usually in partnership with other local Christian churches.
